June 6th, 2011.
I’m Ilaria and I’m Italian. I decided to study English because I want to improve my future and I would like to meet different people from other counties.  I looked for a course in different schools and in the end I decided to attend the course to prepare for the  PET Cambrige Exam at the ESE school.

My teacher was called Elspeth, she was a very kind lady and we worked hard for 10 weeks. My teacher gave me a lot of sample papers to do for homework.  At first I did them with the help of a dictionary and then I did them on my own.  So we worked together and step by step my English improved, so at the end of the course I could do the test without a dictionary and in the right time.  I was really prepared for my Exam.

The day of my exam I was really nervous and the time went very quickly…anyway I did all parts of the test writing, reading and listening.  I think the test was OK.  Before the speaking test I met other students, from other schools in Malta, and we talked about our Exam preparation. After our talk I was really pleased because it looked like I was the best prepared because I had done a lot of mock tests. One of the girls in the test didn’t finish writing her story.  I thought I was very lucky to meet my lovely teacher.

Thank you Elspeth, thank you ESE.  Now I have my fingers crossed for the result.

The best of both worlds, or The most beautiful youth.
December 2010
Again here in Malta to study English at ESE.  Only three weeks, really a short time in which to achieve a lifelong goal: to be fluent in English.  And in these days the big question in my mind is “what is the deep meaning of my stay here?”   This question is too difficult with little chance of finding out the final answer.  Then it’s better to consider a less ambitious question: “if at my age my best role is to be a witness, to what I have learnt these days?”  Now the answer is easier because in this lively environment the mental flashes arrive so fast and frequent.  Actually it sounds fine to see so many people from each corner of the world, seriously engaged in improving their future and, at the same time, to set up a new world.  I call them the most beautiful youth (in Italian “ le piu’ belle giovani”).

Yet it is good to notice that Malta is not only a great business in the middle of the sea but also a place where we can find the best of Italian culture with its flair for beauty and pleasure deeply mixed with the best of old England with its values such as human respect, law and order; in a few words, the best of both worlds.  Is it for this reason that we Italians feel so fine in Malta.  No, not only.  It is impossible to keep silent about the generous soul of all the Maltese people I’ve met, so friendly and so ready to help in any need of their foreign guests.   And finally, how to forget the names and faces of our teachers, Theresa and David, and of the members of the staff: Federica, Neville, Janine, Cain, only to name the closest ones.  They have made my stay a very happy one in this little, lovely place where I hope to come back one day.

Our Teacher
Written by an old – but young at heart – married couple.
Our article is about Leanne Somerville – a beautiful young teacher. Her beauty comes from the fusion of races which has been occurring in Malta throughout the ages. A Biological Law states that this causes “Il Lussureggimento degli Ibridi”, a greater beauty and vitality in descendants.  Consequently, Malta’s inhabitants are strong, beautiful, lively persons. Leanne is not only beautiful, but she is also humble, patient and helpful: humble because she was always sociable and smiling at us; patient because she bore the weight of our ignorance with gentleness; helpful because she always listened to our questions and answered directly.

Leanne is a worthy representative of ESE – a reliable and efficient School of English.  With her teaching, we became familiar with the English language and learnt many things. During lessons, all the participants spoke amongst themselves in English, overcoming the difference in nationality and language.  For this reason, we would like to return to ESE Malta in the near future. To thank her we would like to invite her to our house in Forli (Emilia-Romagna, Italy) for a holiday, if it is possible and she agrees.
