ESE-Twin University Foundation Programme – your guaranteed path to university entry.  In partnership with Twin UK, ESE is offering the University Foundation Programme (UFP) for international students who would like to continue their studies at undergraduate degree level in UK, US or Australian universities within one year.


What is the University Foundation Programme?

The UFP:

  • is a fast-track route to undergraduate degree courses for international students
  • is an intensive academic year course which is an alternative pathway to the two-year A level  / International Baccalaureate route to university admission
  • guarantees admission into Year 1 university in the UK and gives progression to Year 2 entry onto a 4 year Bachelor degree programme in USA and Australian universities
  • prepares international students for undergraduate study by helping them to develop their English language skills, academic study skills and subject knowledge necessary to cope with a different education system

Who is the UFP for?
The UFP is for international students who:
  • have successfully completed High School
  • do not have the necessary English language level  required for university admission in the UK, the USA or Australia
  • have not followed 13 years of formal schooling as required by UK university admission rules

Successful completion of the UFP guarantees you an offer of a place on an undergraduate degree course.

What will you study?
When following the ESE-Twin UFP, you will focus on the following key areas of development:

English Language
The UFP has a strong English language component to it which allows you to make a marked improvement in your level of English.  Core English study modules include General English, English for Academic Purposes, IELTS or TOEFL exam preparation.

Academic skills
The UFP prepares you for undergraduate study at universities in English-speaking countries. Core study modules include Research Skills and University Application Skills which equip you for progression to undergraduate degree study and university admission procedures.


Academic subject routes
When following the UFP, you may choose a minimum of two subject modules which are relevant to your intended degree subject. Core modules include Mathematics and Computing for University. Other subject routes available through the ESE-Twin UFP are Accounting, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Law, Further Mathematics, Physics, Government and Politics and Business Studies.


What are the UFP course entry requirements?
To be admitted on the course, you need:

  • To be 17+ years of age
  • To have reached an intermediate/B1 (The Common European  Framework of Reference for Languages)*
  • To be in possession of a High School certificate
*If you have not reached this level, you can join our Pre-Sessional UFP course in Malta until you reach the required level.


How is the course structured?
For successful completion of the programme you must follow 3 terms of 10 weeks each in Malta and/or the UK.   This means that you may choose any of the followong Study Centre combinations:

UK - Malta - Malta


Total number of hours of study per week is about 26 - 28 hours per week including research and self-study.


What are the course start dates?

Malta Term start dates:
     9th January 2012 - 16th March 2012
     26th March 2012 - 1st June 2012
     25th June 2012 – 31st August 2012
     8th October 2012 - 14th December 2012


UK Term start dates:
   16th January 2012 – 23rd March 2012
   16th April 2012 – 22nd June 2012
   25th June 2012  - 31st August 2012
   8th October 2012 – 14th December 2012

You may follow an *Intensive Programme (2-term)  in exceptional situations only.


What certificate will I receive at the end of my University Foundation Programme?
At the end of your course you will receive an ESE-Twin Group University Foundation Programme at Pass, Merit or Distinction.


How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by examination and continuous assessment throughout the course.


Higher Education Advisory Service
You benefit from academic counseling and support throughout your course. This will include:

  • individual guidance to help you choose the right subjects and university course for you
  • support with the application process and writing of your personal statement
