Useful Information for Adults
On your arrival at the airport, you will be met and greeted by an ESE staff member. You will be given a Welcome Pack which includes details of your course and accommodation booked, San ESE Welcome Guide, a Malta map, an area map, a temporary student card, an ESE welcome letter, a first-week questionnaire and discount tokens. The welcome letter in your pack will tell you what time you should be at school on your first day.
Your first day at school
Our Academic staff determines your language level through the ESE online placement test (which must be submitted at least 14 days before you start your course) or through a short language ability test which you sit for on your first day at school. After your school-based language test, you are interviewed by one of our experienced teachers to assess your level of understanding and fluency. The online and/or paper-based test and interview enable our Academic staff to place you in a course at the level which is appropriate for you.
A Welcome Meeting held straight after your language test. During the meeting, our Leisure Staff inform you about the social and leisure activities available that week and all the services offered at the school.
Reduction of Lessons
Each lesson is 45 minutes long. If at any one level there are only one or two students, the number of lessons per week will be reduced as follows:
General English
:
from 20 group lessons to 15 private lessons
Miniclass
:
from 30 group lessons to 20 private lessons
Business English
:
from 20 group lessons to 15 private lessons
Public Holidays
When public holidays fall on a weekday, lessons will be made up as much as possible but not necessarily to the full.
Useful Information for Teenagers
On your arrival at the airport
you are met and greeted by a member of our ESE staff
who will give you a Welcome Pack that contains information about your stay in Malta and accompany you on your airport transfer to your booked option of accommodation. The Welcome Pack includes details about the school you will be attending, your accommodation, a Welcome Guide, a welcome letter, a Malta map, an ESE map, discount tickets and a temporary ESE student card. Details of your designated school and classroom are printed on your Welcome Pack envelope.
On Monday morning, you should exchange your temporary ESE student card for your permanent ESE card at the ESE Leisure Desk. This card will be used for identification purposes at school and some establishments. You should keep this card with you at all times as it includes important information such as your name, your accommodation address in Malta, and emergency contact telephone numbers. ESE reserves the right to charge a replacement fee of €5 for lost cards.
Teenage School Transport Service
ESE provides a daily private pick-up transport service to school for all teenage students. The service operates from a number of pre-chosen pick-up points which are close to all of our host families and residences. These pick-up points are shown on the ESE map. The service is provided free of charge to all students who have booked one of our teenage courses. You will find information about your pick-up point and pick-up time in your Welcome Pack. After school, students are provided with free transport to ESE organised activities. Students attending afternoon lessons are only provided with free transport to school directly from the morning leisure activity.
Your First Day at School
Details of your designated classroom are printed on the Welcome Pack envelope and you should go to your designated classroom on your first day of school. ESE Group Leaders at the school will assist and direct you to get to your classroom.
A Placement Test is done to assess your correct level of English so that you are placed in a class that is best suited to your level of English and age. You must sit for a Placement Test which may be done either online 14 days or more before your course start date, or on your first day of school. You will also be interviewed by your teacher to ensure your placement is at the right level. After sitting for your Placement Test, your teacher will give you important information about your course with tips and guidelines to help you get the most out of your language learning holiday in Malta.
ESE Group leaders will visit your classroom and explain what your leisure and social programme includes. You will be given details about all your pre-paid activities, optional activities on offer, the location of meeting points, prices and pick-up times. Our leaders will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the social programme.
