Study English for extended periods
Academic Year Courses are designed for students who want to study for extended periods or study at a university where English is a requirement for entry. These courses could either be one semester or the full academic year course of two semesters, totalling six or nine months respectively. The courses, which schedule 30 lessons per week, commence in January and September, with the course syllabus combining an extensive English language programme with a cultural one. AYC courses have a maximum of ten students per class.
Learn how to learn efficiently
The core curriculum concentrates on the four essential skills necessary to enable learners to communicate in English – speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will also be taught skills which will allow them to become more effective and efficient learners. There will be a focus on pronunciation while grammar will be taught in context.
Leisure activities included
A typical day at ESE is split into three one-hour sessions in the morning and a further hour and a half in the afternoon. In addition to joining other students on afternoon activities, AYC students will be entitled to free participation in activities such as film shows and organised walks.
Optional Cambridge, TOEFL iBT or IELTS examination
Towards the end of their course students will have the option of either enrolling in the Cambridge Main Suite Examinations, TOEFL iBT or the IELTS Examination preparation course (subject to students being at the appropriate entry level). Examination fees will apply. Students not joining an examination course will enroll in a General English 30 course appropriate to their level. Students who are not able to start on the designated start dates may join the AYC on other dates at ESE's Director of Studies' discretion.
